All in the Timing is a collection of one-act plays by David Ives, written since the eighties. The staging with the same name features four plays that were written among the first. Ives plays with relationships, the era, and contradictions of the Western civilisation. The focal point of each one-act play is a man mounted in everyday circumstances and relationships, whereby he does not see the comic situation and monotony of his life. Nevertheless, this is not a staging of some existential drama or narrow-minded naturalism. Although the text can be read and understood as very serious, we must smile when we recognise ourselves in the characters attempting to show something familiar. The staging exposes a key problem of human existence – time. It shows in a comic (and melodramatic) mannerhow in life – it’s all in the timing.
